Pastoral team

lead pastor

Chris Promersberger is the Lead Pastor at Mountain Valley Church.  During his life of ministry, he has been a pastor, a teaching elder and a pastor of youth ministry.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pastoral Studies and Biblical Languages and a Master of Divinity degree from Pensacola Theological Seminary.  Chris was ordained in 2004 at Pine Forest Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida.


Chris's goals are to open the word of God with grace and to spread a passion to LOVE God first and to LOVE others well.  His love for Jesus is evident in his energentic and passionate teaching style.


Family pastor

Jamie Duke is the new Family Pastor at Mountain Valley.  Jamie was born and raised in Truth or Consequences, NM.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from New Mexico State University in 1995 and a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Theological Seminary in 2000.  God made it clear to Jamie at the age of 21 that he was called to full-time ministry.  He has served for the last 25 years in New Mexico and Texas as an associate pastor in a variety of roles (youth, college, and family ministries, small groups, worship, discipleship, and Christian education), as a senior pastor, and as a church planter.  Jamie is passionate about discipleship and raising up Christian leaders.  Jamie and his wife, Melissa, met at the Baptist Student Union at NMSU.  They have been married since August, 1995.  They have three incredible children:  Emily - 19, Ryan - 15, and Megan - 12.  They also have two loyal dogs.  Jamie loves home improvement, working outdoors, mountain biking, hiking, and following the Texas Rangers.  Being raised in southern New Mexico, he has grown to love both red and green chile.

  • Gary Phillips

    worship Arts Minister

    Garry has lived in the East Mountains since moving here from California in 1991.  He has a BSEE from Arizona State University and an MSEE from MIT.  He and his wife, Kathy have three grown children (Justin, Jennifer, and Jeremiah) and one grandson (Jared).  Garry's life passions are music and making things work.  His favorite books are  The Space Trilogy by C. S. Lewis.

  • Sondra Burch

    children's ministry Director

    Sondra has 33 years of experience teaching kids in church settings.  She loves working with children and helping them grow in their knowledge of Jesus Christ.  In addition to leading the Children's Ministry at MVC, Sondra is a part of the Worship Team.  Sondra and her husband, Gary have four children (Chris, Michaela, Tarren, and Mark) and one daughter-in-law (Ashley).  Sondra is grateful for the opportunity that God has given her to be a part of the live of the next generation here at MVC.

  • Miles Shiver

    Life group COordinator

    Miles is an Albuquerque native who has lived in the East Mountains since 2006.  He and his wife of 37 years, Janet, have attended Mountain Valley Church since 2013.  They have two children and seven grandchildren.  In addition to serving as Life Group Coordinator, Miles serves as a Life Group Leader and as the Treasurer on the Church Council.  In order to keep up with their seven grandchildren, Miles and Janet stay active by walking and biking.





  • Shawnna Gregory

    Church Administrator

    Shawnna moved to the East Mountains in 2019 and joined Mountain Valley Church in May 2011.  She has worked in several capacities within MVC, including volunteering, Children's Church teacher, Children's Church Assistant Director, Children's Church director, and Event Coordinator before becoming the Church Administrator.  She enjoys firearms and spending time with her husband of eight years and their dogs.

  • Donna Orum

    Financial secretary

    Donna is an Albuquerque native who moved to the East Mountains in 1990.  She has been attending Mountain Valley Church since 2008.  In addition to serving as Financial Secretary, Donna is a Life Group leader, a member of the Women's Ministry Team, and a greeter.  She and her husband, Tim, have five children and three grandchildren.  She enjoys hiking and sewing.
